These are the reasons why we’re afraid to lift heavy:
One, Uncertainty and Doubt — You’re not sure if you can do it
Or Two, it’s intimidating because u have to confront your weakness, that means you’re afraid to fail.
Here’s what I’ve been doing to get over this hurdle
Slowly work up to it, by increasing the weight little by little
Or 2. I just give it a shot, most the time I fail because it’s too heavy, that gives me an idea of my limitation and weaknesses, therefore I know what to improve.
On the other hand, if I succeed, great! I didnt’ know I was that strong, time to up the weights
And of course you can apply this outside of the gym.
Next time you face a challenging problem, could be at work or life in general
Just think of it like a stack of heavy weight, find a way to split the problems into little problem and tackle them little by little
Or two just head on and solve the problem, and if you fail, no big deal, go back and try the first method.
Just because something is intimidating doesn’t mean you can’t do it 😀
