I’ve been tracking calories everyday for the past 2 months and this is what I’ve learned
Losing weights is not hard, but it’s also not easy
The concept of losing weight is simple
Less calories in, more calories out
Keep your body in a caloric deficit and you are guaranteed to lose weights
Simple right?
Until you realize our relationship with food is a little bit more complicated and less logical.
Back then food was something we need to survive
Nowadays, food is easy accessible and we no longer have a food scarcity, it has evolved into something more emotional than just pure primitive and survival
Our relationship with food is more complicated
We eat not to live, but we eat to feel some type of emotion
When we are happy, we celebrate with good food
When we are sad, we eat to numb the pain and distract our emotions.
When we are bored and just want to do something, we most likely want to eat
It doesn’t help that humans are emotional beings, our actions are dictated not 100% by logical thinking, but a split between logic and emotion
Most of the time, when it comes to food, we tend to make decisions based on how we feel.
This is what gets in the way for people who struggle to go on a diet and lose weights.
On top of that, we are social creatures.
We spend time with other humanbeings
And would be the best way to spend time with each other?
Eating!
Luncheon at work
Dinner with the family at home
Eating out with friends on the weekend.
Yada yada
This is another layer of difficulty.
We want to stick to a strict diet, but we also have social responsibilities to fulfill
And it’s not easy to order healthy food when going out with others
We get peer pressured into drinking 1 beer, eating another slice of pizzas
We don’t like to be called a party pooper.
I’m getting hungry now
Hopefully this help you understand more about our relationship with food
And best of luck with your weight loss journey
I’m gonna go eat
